Checking a Meshtastic contact link

Scanning a contact QR code adds a node and its public key to your node list. The Contact Decoder shows who the contact claims to be, whether the Meshtastic app will import it, and what importing it would change on your node.

Use it to

  • Check a contact QR code from a forum, a group chat or a sticker before you scan it.
  • See why a contact won’t import.

How it works

  • Paste the meshtastic.org/v/ link, or the text a QR scanner app shows for the code.
  • It checks the node ID, names and public key, and warns about anything an app may reject, such as a missing key.
  • Older contacts with long names over 24 bytes still decode, with a warning.

Good to know

  • A contact link doesn’t prove who made it. Anyone can put any name and node ID in one.
  • Confirm the public key with the owner before you mark a contact as verified in your app.
